Film screening on the occasion of the exhibition Fotografia 5 – Stefan Moses and Bernd & Hilla Becher curated by Ute Eskildsen at the Villa Massimo, the German Academy in Rome. It is the fifth in a series of exhibitions that presents the development of German photography from the 1920s to the present day and in which the works of two photographers from each period are placed in dialogue or contrast.
„Stefan Moses and Bernd & Hilla Becher document Germany. Why are you doing this? Out of concern and compelling interest. Germany, whose cities had been turned into deserts by the war, was organizing a rapid reconstruction,“ says Joachim Blüher, director of the Villa Massimo, „The two positions in this exhibition are about what still exists, about the fear that it could fall into oblivion. […] If only every era had photographers of its own kind and size, we would no longer need history books.“
